Bike Seat - Reshaping & Recover
More often than not, a factory delivered bike seat isn’t up to scratch in terms of comfort and style as they’re mass produced to last a warranty. Not only this, they lack the character and style most enthusiasts chase when modifying their bikes and bike seats especially.
Working alongside some brilliant bike builders, we’ve landed on methods and procedures to ensure a comfy ride whilst also a very stylish finish for the heavily modified or a simple classic.
We’ll use multiple different foams and layers so each supports and acts in different ways for the ultimate ride experience while also being perfectly adapted to you.
Here’s just a couple examples of the foam layers and shapes we’ve produced for a number of different bikes to give you a better understanding. Each have been heavily modified from the factory shape even though they appear quite standard. We take great pride in the ability to heavily modify a job but make it appear to look right at home among a factory setting.
Pictured above, from left to right is the process. Each step on different seat types as you can see. First ill layer in the new foam and shape to the required specifications, next it will get a full wrap of a final soft foam density layer and the last step is a design idea which, given the nod from the customer, will then become my basis for the leather patterns that will ultimately become your new custom leather bike seat!
Below are the final products of the 3 above..
Each of these seats were a reshape and recover. Each to different specifications from the customer and all one off. Just goes to show the diversity we can off you and your bike seat recover.

Car Seat Recover
Factory Recover
Most of the time, a customer will simply require a recover on a worn or old seat. Perhaps the foam needs repair and a spring or 2 replacing, then finally, a full recover in the desired design.
This 80’s Jag seat (pictured) required just that. The cushions needed a foam repair and beefing up aswell as new covers made and installed over the entire front 2 seats. Despite needing that much work, having both damaged and warped covers, we were able to bring them up like asthough just off the factory floor.
Clean and tidy, just whats required from a factory look retrim.
Custom Car Seat Shaping and Recover
At the higher end of the spectrum for custom seats will be a reshape of the standard foam and a new design to suit. This is where you’ll see the the craft of our trade come alive. It takes a good eye and a great deal of patience to execute a comfortable yet beautifully designed seat from a simple sketch or idea to a one off seat for your custom or classic.
It begins with a concept sketch.. from there we move onto completely overhauling the supplied seats. Crafting and shaping them into our design shape. Once we’re satisfied with their symmetry and comfort, we’ll begin with patterning forming. Using vinyl as a pattern base, each panel is tensioned and placed in just the right way to ensure a tight fit and correct shape and flow. From here, i’ll sew up our vinyl patterns and fit up the dummy cover. More often then not you’ll need slight corrections and adjustments but thats why this process is in-place: to guarantee a perfect fit. Once completely satisfied with my patterns, they’ll be transferred to leather and the real magic begins.
Below is a small insight to the process. A before and after, aswell as, the lines that i’ll pattern too and ultimately a small glimce into how the leather will shape to my foams.
This customer requested a one off design, a tighter feel from the bolsters and full leather with some black filtered in throughout. After sending off the design and it being approved, we got to work. The whole top 4 inches of the cushion and squab foam has completely been replaced and reshaped to suit our design sketch up. The foams then completely patterned from scratch and made to fit perfectly. The end result speaks for itself.
